Five members have been selected from the six candidates running for Penn Hills School Board. According to Allegheny County Office of Elections unofficial election results, Heather Broman, Jackie Blakey-Tate, Erin Vecchio, Robert Marra and Devon Goetze will each serve four-year terms.

Democrat newcomer Broman was the top vote-getter with 6,974 votes.

Blakey-Tate, 6,276 votes, was reelected for her second term. Geotze, with 5,107 votes, was elected to her first full term — she had been appointed to the board last year to fill a vacant seat. Marra received 5,546 votes and was elected to his third term and Vecchio has been reelected for her sixth term in a row with 5,550 votes.

“It feels good and I just want to get to work,” Broman said. “I appreciate all the votes that came in and I hope that we can do some positive things. I’m really looking forward to making some positive changes.”

A common consensus among candidates is to work to improve the district’s attendance and reading and writing scores.

Four of the candidates were cross-filed on the ballot and Broman was on the Democratic ticket only.

Meryl Thomas was on the Republican ticket and unsuccessful in her bid for reelection with 3,331 votes.
