North Park Lake’s water level will be lowered by two feet to allow for an inspection of the dam and wetland barriers located on the upstream end of the lake, the Allegheny County Parks Department has announced.

The county will release water from North Park Lake in McCandless using the Pine Creek Dam starting at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 25.

The dam will be reset at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 28. The lake will then be gradually refilled by rain. The lake’s typical depth varies based on location and the amount of recent rainfall.

There will be no added North Park Lake boating restrictions nor any impact on Parks Department programs as a result of the lower water level. Some visitors might find it more difficult to launch their boats into the lake due to the change in shoreline. Residents might also notice an increase in the flow of Pine Creek during the release of water.

The inspection, which costs $41,892, will be done by Department of Public Works consultant D’Appolonia Engineering Division of Ground Technology, Inc., of Wilkins Township.
