To assist in combating the opioid epidemic, the Ross Police Department is partnering with the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency to create an Opioid Overdose Prevention Program.
The Ross department is offering a no-questions-asked overdose prevention kit to anyone who visits the police station lobby, 1000 Ross Municipal Drive. Each kit contains doses of Narcan, Xylazine test strips, Fentanyl test strips, a sharps container for needles and other objects, and literature concerning overdoses and available help.
Ross social workers have attached information to each kit so that interested parties can contact them for drug-and-alcohol counseling and treatment services.
Kits are available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and any time Ross officers are at the police station. No questions are asked, and no judgments are made.
The program was spearheaded by Ross police social worker intern Ashly Nicholas from Slippery Rock University. Jordan Sager is the township’s social services coordinator.
