Investigation underway into suspicious vehicle fire
Pittsburgh’s Fire Investigation Unit said it is looking into what has been deemed a suspicious fire, city police said.
Late Monday, emergency crews reported to the Bedford Dwellings neighborhood to put out a vehicle fire. Units responded to the 2500 block of Webster Avenue around 9:20 p.m. Police said firefighters had to extinguish fire in the vehicle’s passenger compartment.
The fire was determined to be suspicious when the investigation unit examined the scene after the flames were extinguished.
The investigation is ongoing.
Pittsburgh man charged with escape and bank robbery
A Pittsburgh man was indicted by a federal grand jury in Pittsburgh on charges of escape and bank robbery, U.S. Attorney Eric G. Olshan announced Tuesday.
The two-count indictment named John J. Flick, 58, as the sole defendant.
According to the indictment, on Sept. 2, Flick left a Pittsburgh halfway house, where he was serving out a previous sentence for a 2021 bank robbery. The indictment further alleges that, on the following day, Flick robbed a bank in Dormont.
The law provides for a maximum total sentence of up to 25 years in prison, a fine of up to $500,000, or both.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Shaun E. Sweeney is prosecuting the case on behalf of the government. The FBI, U.S. Marshals Service and Allegheny County Police Department conducted the investigation leading to the indictment.
