Pitt and city police investigate burglary in Oakland
University of Pittsburgh police reported Wednesday that they are working with city officers to investigate a burglary in the 200 block of McKee Place in the city’s Oakland neighborhood. The burglary was reported between 9 and 10 p.m. Sunday.
Police said the suspect broke into a window and took a PlayStation 5 gaming console and games, valued at $500.
Police did not have a suspect description.

Flooding shelter opened in Brownsville
An emergency shelter was opened in Brownsville for residents displaced by flooding.
The American Red Cross Chestnut Ridge and Allegheny Mountains Chapter opened the shelter at the Historic Church of St. Peter parish office at 118 Church St.
Assistance at the shelter is free and it is open to anyone, including pets and service animals. Anyone in need of help after the flooding can contact the organization at 1-800-RED-CROSS.
Former Pittsburgh man sentenced to 7 years for drug charges
A former Pittsburgh man was sentenced Tuesday to seven years in a federal prison followed by six years of supervised release on drug charges, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Pittsburgh.
The case stemmed from an investigation by Pittsburgh police who reported finding Randy Cross, 40, in March 2021 in possession of $11,260, 33 bricks, 11 bundles and three plastic storage bags containing a mixture of heroin and fentanyl, prosecutors said.
He pleaded guilty in November to a drug violation.
Eat’n Park giving free Smiley Cookies to Pirates’ fans
Pittsburgh area Eat’n Park restaurants will be handing out free black-and-gold Smiley cookies to customers who wear Pirates gear Friday. The offer is available to anyone who dines in or orders takeout at Pittsburgh area restaurants.
The Pirates’ home opener is Friday at 4:12 p.m. against the Baltimore Orioles.
