Fox Chapel issues alert over recent burglaries

Borough officials in Fox Chapel issued a safety alert to residents Tuesday after a series of reported burglaries.

“The borough is a safe community but is not immune to crime,” the alert read. “These burglaries are consistent with and similar to other recent burglaries experienced in other Pittsburgh-area neighborhoods.”

Fox Chapel Police Chief Michael Stevens confirmed Wednesday that two burglaries occurred between 7 and 9 p.m. Oct. 28 at separate borough locations: Nantucket Drive and Westmoreland Farms Lane.

Both burglaries occurred at private residences.

Stevens said the ongoing investigation is being handled by Allegheny County Police. He declined to provide additional details.

On Sunday, police reported an armed robber held an employee at gunpoint at the Chipotle in Waterworks Mall and fled with an undisclosed amount of money.

Residents are advised to report suspicious persons, vehicles or activity to 911. If safely possible, residents should record the license plate number and provide a description of the person.

Residents going on vacation are advised to participate in the borough’s Vacation Watch program by calling 412-963-7220.

Warm Wednesday

Mild fall temperatures will continue Wednesday in Western Pennsylvania.

Expect daytime highs to be in the mid-60s through Thursday.

Rain is expected to move into the area Friday with an impending cold front.
