Arrest made in connection with Downtown Pittsburgh shooting
Detectives from the Pittsburgh Police Violent Crimes Unit made an arrest in connection to a shooting that shut down Smithfield Street in Downtown Pittsburgh for a couple hours on Tuesday.
Just before 4:15 p.m., emergency services were dispatched to Smithfield Street between Fourth and Forbes avenues for reports of a male shot. Police located the victim near his vehicle on Smithfield with two gunshot wounds to his arm. Medics transported him to the hospital in stable condition.
Ray Rivera, 58, of Pittsburgh is charged with criminal attempt homicide, aggravated assault, carrying a firearm without a license, persons not to possess and tampering with physical evidence.
He is being held in the Allegheny County Jail.
Free admission to Carnegie Museum of Art
Registration is now open for free admission and outdoor performances at the Carnegie Museum of Art on Saturday.
“Summer Exhibitions Celebrations” runs from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. in the museum’s outdoor Sculpture Court. Squonk will lead guests in creating musical instruments out of everyday materials, culminating in a musical parade.
Participants must register in advance for free admission to the museum in addition to the free outdoor performances.
Clearfield County man facing robbery charges
A Clearfield County man was charged with robbery after an 18-year-old man was held at gunpoint Tuesday night.
Nicholas Joseph Holbert, 22, of Osceola Mills was charged with one felony count of robbery and misdemeanor counts of possessing instruments of crime and theft by unlawful taking or disposition.
Just before 5:30 p.m., members of Pennsylvania State Police’s Indiana Patrol Unit were dispatched to Pompano Drive in White Township.
According to a report, police said they were met by an 18-year-old man who told officers he was walking away from the group when Holbert placed him in a chokehold, pressed a pistol to the left side of his abdomen and demanded his wallet and Rolex wristwatch.
The victim said Holbert then pressed the pistol to the left side of his neck and told him to drop his wallet, which contained $400, the report said. The victim said he gave Holbert his wristwatch, after which Holbert fled the scene.
During overnight hours, troopers said they were contacted by the victim, who told them Holbert had since returned the stolen property. Holbert has since been taken into custody and is awaiting his preliminary hearing.
