3 workers injured at Pittsburgh International Airport

Three Pittsburgh International Airport employees were injured Wednesday after a pickup truck struck a scissor lift, according to TribLive news partner WTAE.

Allegheny County Airport Authority spokesperson Bob Kerlik said two workers were on the lift and one was inside the truck.

The incident happened at about 3:30 p.m.

Workers were were taken to the hospital for evaluation. Their injuries are not life threatening, officials said.

“Safety and security are always the top priority at the Allegheny County Airport Authority, and our safety teams are investigating the incident,” Kerlik said.

Airport operations were not impacted, he said.


Shots fired leads to chase and crash

A police chase Wednesday in Pittsburgh’s Elliott neighborhood ended with a driver being pinned under a vehicle, according to public safety officials.

The incident happened about 2 p.m. and came after police responded to a call for shots fired.

Officers responded to the area of Werder and Herrod streets, where they found shell casings and received information on a vehicle that fled toward Steuben Street.

Police chased the car, stopping when they saw it hit another vehicle and then hit a utility pole. The vehicle flipped over and caught fire with the suspect pinned underneath it.

Crews lifted the car off of the man and took him to the hospital where he was listed in stable condition.

No other injuries were reported.

A firearm and an undisclosed amount of cash was recovered from the vehicle.
