The Allegheny County Medical Examiner has identified Hyoung Kee Park as the man who jumped from a crane in Pittsburgh’s East Liberty Ave on July 5. The fall resulted in Park’s death.

He was 54 years old and his home address was listed as Flushing, NY.

At 5:45 a.m. on July 5, Park climbed a crane in the 5800 block of Centre Avenue, and remained high in the crane. First responders closed off that block of the street for several hours and attempted to communicate with Park after climbing a fire engine ladder.

According to the Pittsburgh Public Safety Department, “negotiators worked tirelessly for over six hours to deliver the man to safety,” but they were ultimately unsuccessful.

He died at 12:01 p.m., according to the medical examiner.

Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey tweeted last week about the incident.

“My heart and my prayers go out to the friends and family of the man who lost his life in East Liberty today,” wrote Gainey. “I want to thank all of the people from Public Safety who attempted to provide help to the person in crisis and our prayers go out to them as well.”
