Pittsburgh Police from Zone 3 found a juvenile male who was shot in the hand in the 300 block of Matthews Avenue in Knoxville on Saturday night.

Allegheny County dispatchers say police were called to the intersection of Grimes and Matthews avenues for a six-round ShotSpotter alert at around 6:30 p.m.

The victim was taken by first responders to the hospital with a substantial wound to his hand. He is reported to be in stable condition.

Police processed evidence at the scene and detectives from the violent crime unit are investigating.

Public Information Officer Cara Cruz said the investigation is ongoing.

Since 2021 there has been an increase in the number of calls for shots fired in the Knoxville area, according to Cruz.

In 2022, there were a total of 7 homicides in the area and 3 non-fatal shootings. In 2021, there were 3 homicides and 10 non-fatal shootings, according to the bureau’s Crime Analysis Unit.
