Cold temperatures with below-zero wind chill will slam the Pittsburgh area through Friday, but only a little snow is expected, according to National Weather Service meteorologists.
An arctic cold front is moving into the area from the north over Thursday night, and will pass over Allegheny County around 2 a.m.
It may bring with it a brief burst of moderate snow, but a temperature drop will be its “major impact,” according to NWS Pittsburgh meteorologist Colton Milcarek.
Friday morning wind chills will be as low as minus 1 degree .

“Winds are going to kick up behind the front, and wind chills (Friday) morning are going to be knocking on the negatives,” Milcarek said.
The coldest temperatures are expected around 9 a.m. for Allegheny County.

Snow accumulation will likely be at its highest farther north, in Venango County, where Milcarek expected around 1.5 inches on the high end.
Temperatures will warm slightly during the day Friday, Milcarek said, but won’t recover much.
Forecasts predict daytime wind speeds of 16 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph.
The weather will not improve when the sun goes down, he added. Friday night will see lows around 9 degrees, with wind chill values as low as minus 2 . Winds will continue between 6 and 14 mph.
Saturday will be warmer and less cloudy, with highs near 34. Winds will still be present between 6 to 13 mph. Saturday night won’t be as cold, with a low around 28.
