Looking for some live Labor Day weekend music that benefits a good cause?
The 2021 Allegheny County Music Festival takes place Sunday at the Hartwood Acres Park Amphitheater with opening acts slated to begin at 5 p.m. The headliner, local band The Commonheart, hits the stage at 8 p.m.
Starting at 6, food trucks and Hop Farm Brewing Company will be on-site.
Organizers say the suggested donation for each car is $20, which will go to the Allegheny County Music Festival Fund. The fund benefits children and young people by purchasing laptops, school uniforms and books for college students.
“We’re really excited that this is happening because we had to take last year off, unfortunately, because of covid,” said Shelli Luchs, senior manager, event and donations for Allegheny County. “It’s a big deal for us. The fund is doing well but because it supports so many kids in Allegheny County, it’s really important that we continue putting money into that fund.”
The fund has raised over $530,000 and helped over 3,000 children receiving services from the Deptartment of Human Services and the juvenile section of the family division of the Court of Common Pleas.
Luchs said she’s excited to have The Commonheart headlining because they have a solid local following and are also receiving national attention. The opening acts include Funky Fly Project, Sierra Sellers, and Meeting of Important People.
“Those bands are unique and different,” said Luchs. “There are a lot of different sounds that we’ll have on Sunday and I think we have a little something for everyone. It’s a fun day to get out with friends and family and I think everyone will feel safe because we’re outdoors.”
Organizers are encouraging concertgoers to bring a blanket or chair and arrive early to stake out their area on the lawn.
