Students at Carson Middle School in North Allegheny School District saw extra security when they arrived to class Thursday after someone posted an online threat that was vague but still concerning to district officials.

Officials were notified Wednesday of an online threat against a “CMS student,” Superintendent Melissa Friez told parents in an email.

There was no direct threat to Carson Middle School, Friez said.

District leaders contacted McCandless police to investigate.

“In researching the context of the post with the police, we do not believe that Carson Middle School and/or its students are the CMS mentioned in the post,” Friez said.

As a precaution, students’ backpacks, bags and purses were searched before they entered the building.

Other measures to boost safety included having all students enter the middle school through the same set of doors. No other doors were open.

“The safety of our students and staff is always our highest priority,” Friez said. “We take any threat very seriously and are thankful for the action taken by students and staff to alert us to this situation. A safe and welcoming school is the responsibility of all of us.”
