The principal of a Pittsburgh high school is on administrative leave while the district reviews a fight last week that left one student hospitalized, according to a statement from the district.
Spokeswoman Ebony Pugh said the principal at Brashear High School, Kimberly Safran, is on a “non-disciplinary paid administrative leave” pending a review of the incident.
The incident in question was a fight on Friday involving several students. Video of the incident appears to show one student slamming another heard-first into a hallway floor and then stomping on the boy’s head before school security stops him. The hallway was fairly crowded with students at the time.
One student was taken to the hospital. His condition was not available on Tuesday.
The high school, on Crane Avenue in the city’s Beechview neighborhood, serves just under 1,100 students. In late November, a school police officer was assaulted by four male students at Brashear, authorities said.
The incident on Friday came a day after several teachers were injured during a fight amongst students at Carrick High School and two days after an Oliver Citywide student was shot and killed waiting in a school van outside the North Side school.
