A Pittsburgh man remained in custody Tuesday after authorities found more than 150 bricks of fentanyl, two guns and bundles of cash in his Carrick home, according to court documents.
Authorities charged Drew Gordon, 22, with fentanyl distribution.
Investigators searched Gordon’s house on Valera Avenue last week after an undercover federal agent said someone in a car linked to Gordon shot at him last week.
The agent’s car was riddled with “bullet strikes,” according to an FBI affidavit.
The affidavit said an unnamed agent with the Drug Enforcement Administration was conducting surveillance Friday afternoon around Valera Avenue in Carrick.
The undercover agent spotted a red Dodge Ram pickup. For reasons that were not explained by authorities, he wanted to get away from the vehicle.
The agent circled the block and turned onto Maytide Street around 1:20 p.m. when the pickup drove past.
Shots were fired, and the agent realized someone he thought was in the pickup was shooting at him, according to court papers.
The agent, who authorities did not name, was not injured. Pittsburgh police were dispatched to the scene and recovered 10 spent cartridge cases nearby.
About an hour later, investigators found the pickup on nearby Queenston Street. There were spent cartridges on the driver’s seat, the affidavit said.
Earlier, investigators had seen the pickup in front of what they called the “target location.” The address was not provided in the court papers, but authorities went there after the shooting and set up surveillance.
Two men, who were not named in the court paperwork, showed up, and soon they left along with a person identified as Gordon.
Authorities pulled them over. In the front passenger seat, where they said Gordon was sitting, was a key fob for a rental vehicle — the red Dodge Ram, according to the FBI.
Investigators recovered $3,200 in cash from Gordon and one of the other men he was with.
They later searched the target location, which they said was Gordon’s house.
Authorities found “bulk cash,” Gordon’s passport, a bag of crack cocaine and a blue duffel bag with about 150 bricks of fentanyl, according to the affidavit.
They also found two guns — one of them reported stolen — on a living-room couch and a digital scale next to a bedroom nightstand.
Five more bricks of fentanyl were found near a stairwell, court documents showed. The amount of drugs, which tested positive for fentanyl, are “consistent with distribution and not personal use.”
Authorities called Gordon a flight risk in court records and said he is a danger to the community.
He made his initial appearance in federal court on Tuesday. He has a detention hearing Friday.
The federal public defender’s office, which is representing Gordon, declined to comment Tuesday.
A spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Western District of Pennsylvania did not return phone calls or emails seeking comment.
