Another person in the past week reached millionaire status after buying a winning Pennsylvania Lottery scratch-off ticket.
The latest winner, announced Wednesday, cashed in on a $5 million Monopoly Own It All ticket sold at the Route 8 Shop ’n Save in Richland Township. The Monopoly game is a $50 ticket.
As with all scratch-off game tickets, the winner has one year to claim the prize from the end sale date of the game, which is posted on the lottery’s website at www.palottery.com. The Shop ’n Save location will get a $10,000 bonus from the lottery for selling the winning ticket.
It is the third $1 million-plus winner in the region in just the past week.
Lottery officials said Monday that a $3 million scratch-off winner was sold at the BP gas station along Freeport Road in Harrison. It was from the $160 Million Cash Blowout game, which costs $30 to play.
On Sunday, another player hit big with a $1.4 million Cash 5 ticket at Giant Eagle along Tarentum Bridge Road in New Kensington.
While a string of three large winners so close together in less than a week seems to defy odds, lottery officials say it’s pure chance.
“The chances of winning are not influenced by where a ticket is sold,” said Diana Dietz, lottery deputy communications director. “What may seem like a cluster of wins in a certain area is more likely just pure luck.”
The week of big winners continues a streak of luck in the region.
Just two weeks ago, a BP gas station in Freeport sold a $1 million scratch-off. The winning ticket was from the lottery’s $1,000,000 Game and was sold at the store at 222 Buffalo St.
The winner of that jackpot will collect her prize during a presentation ceremony Thursday at the gas station.
