Three people were able to escape a fire that broke out early Wednesday at a Munhall home, according to Tribune-Review news partner WPXI.

Crews responded to the home in the 2800 block of Main Street at about 1:50 a.m.

Three adults were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.

Two dogs and a cat were also treated at the scene with pet masks. They were taken to a pet hospital for further treatment where one of the dogs later died from his injuries.

According to Munhall Fire Chief Ed Pletsch, the home did not have working smoke detectors.

The residents woke from sleep because they smelled smoke, Pletsch said. He stressed the importance of having working smoke detectors.

The fire marshal is investigating.
