If you won a door prize at the Greensburg-Jeannette Women in NAACP (WIN) fashion show, you had to walk the runway to pick it up. That was the rule laid down by commentator Melinda McCoy.

“If you don’t know how to walk the runway, I’ll come down there and show you,” McCoy said, before giving a little lesson from the dais.

Turns out, every winner was runway ready, no lesson needed.

Theme for the fashionable affair, held Oct. 12 at the Ramada by Wyndham Hotel and Conference Center in Hempfield, was “Unforgettable: Then & Now.”

To beats laid down by DJ Danny Cooper, models displayed fashions provided by Maurice Gingham, owner of Mo’ Reese Clothing, and Kevin Miscik, owner of Lapel’s, A Fine Men’s Clothier.

Prior to the show, there was a luncheon and shopping for outerwear, handbags, jewelry and accessories from vendors Pam Abbott, Tina Aiken, William Denton, Kim Lester, Anita Morgan and Susan Pankersley. WIN members and local businesses provided baskets for a silent auction.

Models included Renee Gilliard, Brenda Mise, Karen Struble Myers, Adrienne Russell, Thomasina “TC” Skillings, Jerry Cooley Sr., David Hunter, Ted Kopas and Tay Waltenbaugh. Escorts were Jim Galik and Jerry Skillings.

Event co-chairwomen were Norma Skillings and Ruth Tolbert, with assistance from Russell and Ruth Woods. Patrons included Carol Calloway, Julie Cawoski, Carolyn Falcon, Karlice and Ed Makuchan, Jean Slusser and Galik.

WIN’s mission is to help women and children in need. The group awards scholarships to college-bound high school students and provides assistance to groups including Westmoreland County Food Bank, Westmoreland Community Action, Blackburn Center, ParentWISE, Welcome Home Shelter and YWCA of Westmoreland County.
