Young crooners will compete for scholarships during the second annual Battle of the Sinatras from 7-9 p.m. Sept. 21 at Greensburg Salem Middle School in Greensburg.

Hosted by GCSB Arts, Education and Wellness, the event will feature Westmoreland County high school students and recent graduates interpreting Frank Sinatra songs, with support from Glass City Swing Band and vocalists Caryn Dettling and Tyler Brignone.

“By selecting music of Frank Sinatra we hope that students will find ways to be in service to the piece they select, and honor the style of Sinatra, but also add their own interpretation and really ‘own’ the song,” said GCSB board member Raven Dickson. “After all, vocal craft and honest expression is what Sinatra was all about.”

Contestants will compete for scholarships ranging from $50 to $300 provided by GCSB via a donation from Hayden’s Pharmacy.

General admission to the event is $20, or $10 for students.

Contestants are being accepted by audition. Chosen competitors will receive performance tips and have one rehearsal with the band.

For audition information, call GCSB musical director Joy Procida at 724-374-3777.
