Where’s the beef? Wendy’s out of burgers at some U.S. locations

Some diners at Wendy’s around the country are asking “where’s the beef?” as the fast food chain runs out of burgers because of food supply disruptions.

According to The New York Times, nearly 1 in 5 Wendy’s restaurants were sold out of beef products, including hamburgers, on Monday night.

In recent days, diners took to social media to post photos and complain that Wendy’s did not have any, or limited, burgers available.

The company acknowledged some supply issues, but said they was temporary.

“Some of our menu items may be in short supply from time to time at some restaurants in this current environment,” Wendy’s said in a statement to Restaurant Business. “We expect this to be temporary, and we’re working diligently to minimize the impact to our customers and restaurants.”

Wendy’s, which operates over 5,800 locations in the U.S., promotes that they serve only fresh, never frozen burgers. But using fresh meat may have led the chain to struggle to maintain a supply.

According to the Restaurant Business report, while McDonald’s and Burger King last week acknowledged some challenges, neither has experienced any break in food supplies.

Experts say there is not a meat shortage, but the closing of meat processing plants around the country because of the coronavirus pandemic has led to some disruption in the food supply chain.

Giant Eagle started to limit the amount of meat a customer could purchase last weekend.
