Taco lovers can soon get their fix at a new East End location.
A second Tako restaurant is opening in Bakery Square in Pittsburgh. It joins the Downtown venue owned by the Richard DeShantz Restaurant Group.
“We are really excited to have a Richard DeShantz Restaurant Group restaurant,” said Gregg Perelman, founding partner and CEO of Walnut Capital Management which manages Bakery Square. “It is one of my favorites and has a great following and quality of food.”
Casey Henderlong, director of events and catering for the Richard DeShantz Restaurant Group, said the plan is to open sometime in the first half of 2021. The location will be next to Panera Bread.
Also opening next year in Bakery Square is Smallman Galley, in late February. The restaurant incubator started in the Strip District in 2015, but needed a bigger space, Perelman said.
“Adding these places will make Bakery Square a foodie place,” Perelman said. “It is great to have some good news here.”
Henderlong said they considered several locations for Tako outside of Pittsburgh. They chose this one because of all the development being done by Walnut Capital Management, including more condominiums.
“This space just makes sense,” said Henderlong. “The design fits us, and it’s a great location.”
It will be larger than the Downtown spot and will have a more open, airy feel to it, Henderlong said. The menus will be similar, with some items exclusive to each location. Both will have the well-known grilled octopus taco, she said.
“We are excited to be surrounded by so many great places,” she said. “It will bring more people to the area and give them many options. We also are seeing more and more people wanting to stay close to home, so at Bakery Square, they can just walk over from where they live.”
