Couch Brewery in Pittsburgh’s Larimer is scheduled to close next month, but another brewery will be moving into the location.

The independent brewery on Washington Boulevard announced the closure on social media Sunday. Its last day in business will be Dec. 19, the brewery wrote on Facebook “with a tear in our eye and a beer in our hand.”

Couch Brewery, which opened in 2017, brewed a variety of year-round, seasonal and limited beers, and boasted a full-service bar with wine and liquor offerings.

“It has been a pleasure to serve you all over the last few years,” the Facebook post reads. “Having you all in our ‘living room’ has been like sitting on a couch and chatting with family. The stories, laughs and friendships we have created are extraordinarily precious to us and we will treasure them forever.”

By Monday afternoon, over 500 people had reacted to the post and more than 100 left comments.

The social media announcement did not explain why the brewery was closing.

Before the Dec. 19 closing date, Couch Brewery will be hosting a “12 Days of Christmas” event. The brewery said it also will be hosting several private events over the next few weeks, and it encouraged people to check its hours before visiting.

Though Couch Brewery will be closing, some of its fan-favorite beers will survive.

Another brewery, Tortured Souls Brewing, will be taking over the space, bringing its own beers, while also brewing some favorites from Couch.

Before opening its own location, Tortured Souls Brewing debuted its first beer, Endless Void, at Couch Brewery. Its website now lists over a dozen offerings.

An opening date for Tortured Souls Brewing was not immediately announced.
