Along with produce, prepared foods and crafts to sample and buy on Sept. 7, Ligonier Country Market will offer several special features between 8 a.m. and noon.

Music will be provided this week by folk-rock duo Woods Rising, with Derek Woods and Sara Woods. The two have been playing music together for five years and perform both original and cover songs.

Members of the upcoming 112th annual Flax Scutching Festival, set for Sept. 14-15 at Monticue’s Grove in Stahlstown, also will be in attendance.

“Instead of a demonstration, we are looking at more of a working display,” says festival director Marilee Pletcher.

“This will be our third year (at the market). Our invitation is for the weekend right before the event. You can talk to us,” she says.

“Even when we do our demonstrations at the festival, as soon as a demonstration is over, interactions with our visitors start right then,” Pletcher adds.

The festival’s longevity means there can be five generations of families on the grounds, Pletcher says.

“We have a committee of 12. Each is responsible for some part of the festival. Without those volunteers it just wouldn’t come together,” she says.

The annual festival also features homemade food, crafts, antique farm equipment, live music, civil war encampment, covered wagon train encampment and a staged Indian raid, according to its website.
