After nearly seven years slinging coffee in Pittsburgh’s Allentown neighborhood, the heavy metal-themed coffee shop Black Forge Coffee is closing down its original store.
According to a Facebook post, Black Forge Allentown will have limited hours starting on May 23, and June 30 will be the final day of business for the coffee shop housed next to the Pittsburgh Police station on Arlington Avenue in Allentown.
In addition to serving lattes, coffee, and pastries, Black Forge Allentown also hosted local music acts, artisan markets, and other events.
“Allentown, It’s been one hell of a ride. We opened August 9th 2015 and since that time have met, collaborated with, hosted, and hung out with some of the raddest people we’ve ever met!” read a post put on Black Forge’s Facebook page. “Hundreds of bands and artists all coming together under one roof, our roof, and we couldn’t be any more proud of you all, nor more thankful for the time you spent with us in Allentown.”
A call to Black Forge was not immediately returned.
Although the original Allentown location is closing, Black Forge will continue to run its McKees Rocks location.
“We believe that concentrating our efforts in McKees Rocks is the best option for us to continue and we really appreciate your support during these times,” reads the Facebook post. “This isn’t goodbye…. we’re just shaking things up a bit. Like we’ve always done.”
Starting May 23, Black Forge Allentown will be open Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Reduced hours are also starting on May 23 for the McKees Rocks location.
The Allentown location will also be open for the Allentown Night Market on June 11, which runs from 7-11 p.m.
