U.S. Steel and the United Steelworkers have ratified a four-year contract on behalf of about 11,000 members.
The contract, which was tentatively struck on Nov. 8, covers 13 local unions at U.S. Steel’s domestic flat-rolled facilities, iron ore mining facilities and tubular operations, including the Mon Valley Works in Allegheny County.
“The new agreements balance the needs of our employees, customers, stockholders, and other stakeholders,” David B. Burritt, president and CEO of the Pittsburgh-based steel company, said in a statement.
The agreements are retroactive to Sept. 1 and will continue through Sept. 1, 2026.
USW District 7 Director Michael Millsap, who chaired the negotiations, said the deal features a lump sum bonus, improves wages by more than 20% over its term, increases pensions, includes an additional holiday and makes improvements to both active and retiree healthcare.
“With the new contract ratified, union members will be safer at work and our jobs and benefits more secure than they have been in the past,” Millsap said. “Our continued solidarity will ensure that we keep the tradition of steelmaking alive in our communities for another generation of Steelworkers.”
The USW, headquartered in Pittsburgh, represents 850,000 workers.
