Pittsburgh’s Nutmeg Party will be celebrating the release of their new EP, “Party,” with a show that celebrates the arts.

The record release show is set for Jan. 4 at Glitterbox Theater in West Homestead.

“Not only will we have art vendors who make stuff we think is cool, but we’ll also have an arts and crafts setup where folks can make whatever they like, and an art instructor to help inspire trying new things,” singer/drummer Hayden Hanna said. “The art volunteers will also facilitate the creation of a mixed media stage piece that anyone can contribute to — we’ll look forward to displaying it at future shows.”

Hanna and singer/bassist Evan Spurlock served as producers for the EP.

“It’s a culmination of all of our efforts until now, and we really feel it showcases the range of genres and styles we can play,” Hanna said. “There will always be a special magic you can only hear in our live performances, but the talents of (Myself) and Evan as producers offer its own unique experience.”

The EP, which officially comes out Jan. 2, features the first single, “Reincarnation.”

“It is a song that captures the sentiment of two lovers — who were a cat and dog in their past lives — meeting in the current one to teach each other how to become each other’s animal in the next,” Hanna said.

Besides the record release show, the band has a few other dates locked in for January.

“There’s a certain special energy to our music that only comes out when we play together live and our chemistry explodes,” Hanna said. “Additionally, seeing all the familiar faces of our community enjoying the music is part of why we do it. Poetry Lounge has always been wonderful to us, and we like the intimacy of The Government Center. In our hearts, we’ll always love the DIY venue where we first performed: The Rose Bowl.”

The community aspect of the band and the Pittsburgh music scene has been a group highlight.

“The most exciting thing to us has always been encountering other local musicians in the wild,” Hanna said. “Not just at venues, but in the bakeries, music stores, cafes… It feels special to meet all the other people who are ‘doing the thing’ all over our city.”

Band members: Andi Lewis (vocals, keys, baritone ukulele); Hayden Hanna (vocals, drums); Dylan Takach (guitar); Evan Spurlock (vocals, bass guitar)

Founding story: We met in 2023 at the (Community College of Allegheny County), where we all had ensemble class together. Countless after-class jams turned into “hey, we actually have some really good chemistry… should we make a band?” The answer was, of course, yes!

Origin of band’s name: The meaning is a band secret, but … some may find the answer behind an amount of nutmeg we can’t advocate for!

For fans of: Discovering music that is a unique mosaic — some have compared us to Peach Pit, Tally Hall, Ben Folds and beyond.

Influences: King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ben Howard, Koji Kondo, and countless others.
