Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban was back in his native Pittsburgh on Tuesday to tape a segment for an upcoming profile on “CBS Sunday Morning,” grabbing lunch with four childhood friends at Galley Bakery Square.

Todd Reidbord, one of the owners of Bakery Square parent company Walnut Capital who arranged the lunch location, has been friends with Cuban since middle school. Some of the others who joined them for lunch — investment consultant Jerry Katz, insurance consultant Steven Rosen and advertising sales executive Stu Chaban — have known Cuban since kindergarten.

“Mark emailed saying how he was being interviewed and he had the idea of coming up to Pittsburgh to film,” Reidbord said of the Dallas Mavericks owner and “Shark Tank” star. “They wanted to do something on his background.”

Reidbord said CBS News correspondent Jim Axelrod asked questions about what it was like growing up with Cuban in Mt. Lebanon, if they thought Cuban would become as successful as he has.

Cuban, who grew up in Mt. Lebanon, said via email CBS News only filmed at Bakery Square in Pittsburgh.

“[The segment is] just about me and Cost Plus Drugs,” Cuban said, citing his online pharmacy as part of what CBS’s profile is likely to cover.

Reidbord said the four friends, plus another friend who lives in Washington, D.C., have a standing Zoom get-together Tuesdays with Cuban joining as his schedule allows, usually at least once a month.

“Mark has always been in contact, he always reaches out to the group,” Reidbord said.

And what did Cuban order and from which Galley counter? Reidbord said Cuban chose pierogies from Elevate.

“He said he doesn’t get back to Pittsburgh enough but when he does he likes Polish pierogies,” Reidbord said.

The segment is tentatively scheduled to air on “CBS Sunday Morning” on KDKA-TV on Jan. 8.
