In this episode of the “Pittsburgh Pop” podcast, host Tim Benz and TV Talk columnist Rob Owen discuss Pittsburgh pop culture news of the moment, including actor Steve Carell naming Pittsburgh one of the favorite places he’s visited on the “Office Ladies” podcast.

“I’m not saying that ironically, either. I’ve done a couple of movies there, and I liked it. It was a cool city,” Carell said on the podcast, referencing locally-filmed flicks “Last Flag Flying” (2017) and “Foxcatcher” (2014).

Owen and Benz also discuss Pittsburgh native Billy Porter’s appearance on this week’s episode of Jimmy Fallon’s prime-time celebrity game show “That’s My Jam” (10 p.m. Tuesday, WPXI-TV). Porter will bring his concert tour home to Pittsburgh May 28 at Heinz Hall.

Benz and Owen break down Sunday night’s Oscar telecast: the winners, the MIA big names from the In Memoriam segment and how the dealt with last year’s “slap” incident when Will Smith assaulted host Chris Rock on live national TV.

Owen offers his thoughts on the first-season finale of HBO’s “The Last of Us.”
