In this episode of the “Pittsburgh Pop” podcast, host Tim Benz and TV Talk columnist Rob Owen discuss Pittsburgh pop culture news of the moment, including filmed-in-Pittsburgh comedy “Sprung,” now streaming new episodes Fridays on Amazon Freevee. “Sprung” creator Greg Garcia thinks one of his characters, Barb, played by the always-game Martha Plimpton, would approve of Amazon Freevee, formerly IMDb TV.

“Barb would absolutely love the fact that it’s free. She has an antenna TV. She’s on a fixed income,” he said in a recent press conference during the Television Critics Association virtual summer press tour. “She can’t afford all these streamers. … Barb would be over the moon for Freevee. She’s like, ‘What, I just have to watch less ads than they have on other streaming services and I get quality programming like ‘Sprung’?”

Garcia added that Plimpton’s character from one of his previous shows, “Raising Hope,” would also be a fan, “but she’d probably screw it up and call it Freela-vision.”

Owen offers his takes on the “Better Call Saul” finale and early episodes of HBO’s “Game of Thrones” prequel, “House of the Dragon.”

The pair discuss the latest move in college sports telecast rights, a new, 10-year, $1 billion TV deal for the Big Ten shared among CBS, Fox and NBC.
