WPXI-TV reporter Mike Holden, who’s been out on medical leave since early September, says doctors have cleared him to return to work at Channel 11 next week.

In September, Holden posted to social media that he was suffering from a potential case of popliteal artery entrapment syndrome that didn’t allow him to walk, run or put weight on his right foot. In late September, Holden said he was waiting to see a doctor who treats that condition.

Holden says no surgery was necessary.

“I can’t thank everyone enough for their concern and support,” he writes in a prepared statement. “It was a very challenging and stressful last five-plus weeks. The worst thing was the uncertainty and being told to not walk or stand on my foot. Luckily, my doctors and surgeons determined I do not need surgery. They will continue to monitor my status. For now, I’m medically cleared to return to work, and I’m so grateful to be back doing what I love!”

Holden, who previously reported on morning newscasts, said he’ll now be working a daytime shift, reporting for the early evening newscasts.

“It’s a bit of relief to turn off the 2:20 a.m. alarm clock and rest a bit more!” he wrote.
