Greensburg Hempfield Area Library staff members know kids like to be scared at Halloween, just like many of their older siblings and parents.

So they put together an annual “Haunted Cellar” on the lower level of the library, at 237 S. Pennsylvania Ave., and invite them to enter — if they dare.

“It’s like a haunted house, a walk-through. It’s meant to be scary,” says children’s librarian Jessica Kiefer. The cellar will be “haunted” from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 28-29. Visitors can enter through the Third Street door.

“There is no registration necessary. People can show up at any time during that time frame. It’s a lot of fun. It’s kind of nice if you’ve never done a haunted house before,” Kiefer says.

The program is recommended for those age 8 and up, and is free to the public. Strobe lights may be used, visitors are warned.

“Grown-ups are welcome, too,” she says.
