Jack White says he is suing Donald Trump over his campaign’s use of the White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army” in an online video posted by Margo Martin, Trump’s deputy director of communications.
“Oh….Don’t even think about using my music you fascists,” White wrote in an Instagram post on Thursday, which was linked to the offending post. “Law suit coming from my lawyers about this (to add to your 5 thousand others.)”
White is one of several artists who have objected to or who have threatened legal action against Trump and his team for what they say is unauthorized use of their music. In recent weeks, Beyoncé, Celine Dion, Foo Fighters, Bruce Springsteen and Prince’s estate have raised a flag about their songs being used in promotional material or campaign events for the former president.
White doubled down in his attack on Trump in his post.
“As long as I’m here, a double (expletive) you DonOLD for insulting our nation’s veterans at Arlington you scum. You should lose every military family’s vote immediately from that if ANYTHING makes sense anymore.”
It’s not the first time White has publicly called out Trump. In 2022, White pulled his record label, Third Man Records, off of Twitter after Elon Musk allowed Trump to return to the social media platform. In 2016, Third Man sold T-shirts with the phrase, “Icky Trump,” a reference to the White Stripes’ 2007 album, “Icky Thump.”
White is currently touring behind the release of his new solo album “No Name,” which he released in his Third Man Records stores for free last month, and officially released on Aug. 2.
He is due to play at the Blind Pig in Ann Arbor on Sunday and the Hamtramck Labor Day Festival on Monday, with his old band the Hentchmen.
