Dionne Warwick: first Black female solo pop star who rose to prominence in the ’60s, Queen of Smooth Pop and a living legend. Nowadays, you can refer to her as Dionne The Singer (her words she posted, hehe), but her newest honorific title is our undisputed Queen of Twitter. Here’s how it happened:
Warwick had questions that needed answering from some of today’s younger artists. She wanted to know why some artists put “the” in their names.
Even more specifically, she wanted to know if you’re obviously a rapper, why must you put “the rapper” in your stage name. So she mentioned Chance the Rapper for the answers she needed.
He handled it like a champ or well…a fanboy. When a legend knows who you are, it only makes sense to freak out a little.
It was because of Chance The Rapper, Warwick is now Dionne The Singer.
Just because The Weeknd does not have “singer” in his stage name, he wasn’t off limits. “Weeknd” is not how spell “weekend” and Warwick wanted to know why?!
The Weeknd was simply honored to be roasted by Dionne The Singer.
The Queen of Smooth Pop’s tweets led to speculation that she wasn’t the one tweeting. So in true Dionne Warwick fashion, she cleared that right up with a video message to all the naysayers.
It reads:
Wow! She even worked in the word “quell.” You still have to watch this for yourself. Some may say, “spoken like a true legend.”
It doesn’t stop there. Warwick has plenty much remained active on Twitter throughout December and shows no signs of slowing down. She’s even reportedly collaborating with Chance The Rapper and The Weeknd on a charity single called “Nothing Is Impossible,” according to NME.
The song was written by Dionne’s son, Dionne Damon Elliott, for the nonprofit organization Hunger Not Impossible. The charity fights against hunger by serving as a connector of American families to healthy meals from local restaurants, NME reports.
While Warwick teased Chance The Rapper and The Weeknd out of fun (and they of course joined in), she is collaborating with and uplifting today’s artists. She’s also on Twitter learning from the younger generations and about what causes are relevant today.
Warwick wants her doppelg\u00e4nger, R&B superstar Teyana Taylor to play her in a biopic.
She even reached out to Netflix to make it happen.
The Queen of Smooth Pop doesn’t play with trolls or naysayers on Twitter. One of her tweets was made into a Billboard in New York, which reads, “please do not bring that foolishness into 2021.”
