Here we go … with plenty of black and gold icing showing up on cakes and sweets, as Steelers-themed dessert options debut at a pair of bakeries in the Alle-Kiski Valley.
As the Steelers have been preparing for their Monday night wild-card playoff matchup against the Houston Texans, so to have bakery employees.
To commemorate the occasion, Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers and other Steelers are featured on edible portrait cookie creations available now at Oakmont Bakery.
The “Houston … You Have A Problem” cookie pays homage to the lunar landing, with a Steelers astronaut walking on the moon.
“We just all come up with these fun ideas,” said Oakmont Bakery co-owner Tony Serrao. “We have Aaron Rodgers with Steelers players on a trolley with our ‘Mr. Rodger’s Neighborhood’ cookie.”
The fanciest Steelers torte cake ($35) at Oakmont Bakery is made with yellow and chocolate layers and showcases Rodgers smashing the Texans logo.
Shawn Creevey, owner/operator of Mazziotti Bakery in Lower Burrell, said production has ramped up for Steelers sweets, including a football-shaped cake.
“We’ll be ready beginning at 8 a.m. Friday,” he said earlier this week, “and we want all of our baked goods to be fresh for the big game.”
