A blizzard warning, subzero wind chills and dangerously frigid weather is forecast all week for much of the greater Pittsburgh region.
The National Weather Service issued a blizzard warning Monday for areas of Westmoreland and Fayette counties until 3 p.m., with expected wind gusts up to 35 mph and up to an additional 1 to 3 inches of snow.
Snow is expected to decrease late Monday and that’s when the extreme cold weather sets in, according to NWS Pittsburgh meteorologist Shannon Hefferan.

A cold weather advisory goes into effect Monday night through Tuesday morning with wind chills expected to be below zero at minus-10 to minus-15 degrees.
“We have a good shot of cold air coming from the Midwest and Canada. Minnesota is minus-25 now, and the colder air is northwest of the Great Lakes and is drifting down and that same cold air mass is pushing further south,” Hefferan said.
Wind chills between minus-5 and minus-15 degrees are expected Tuesday morning.
“It’s impactful so remember to bundle up, don’t stay outside too long, bring your pets inside, check on family members and practice space heater safety,” Hefferan said
More than 90 weather-related school closings and delays were reported Monday by TribLive news partner WTAE-TV.
A significant warming isn’t expected until at least Sunday, Hefferan said.
The average high and low temperatures for February in Pittsburgh is 40 and 23 degrees, respectively.
