Two miniature pinschers were at an animal shelter Friday after they were found in taped-up boxes left outside the Giant Eagle in White Oak.

“We got a call around 12:30 p.m. from a good Samaritan who saw the boxes and knew something wasn’t right and picked them up,” said Mackenzie Demme at the White Oak Animal Safe Haven, a no-kill shelter.

Demme said the dogs appear to be young adults.

“They’re so scared right now that we couldn’t get a close look at them just yet,” she said. “From a quick glance, they seem to be in generally fine health. Their nails are a little bit long, but nothing terrible.”

Demme said the shelter has an in-house veterinarian who will examine the dogs.

“They’ll get a check-up, they’ll get spayed, get their vaccines and then they’ll be placed up for adoption,” she said.

Anyone with information about the dogs, or who left them outside the store, is asked to contact White Oak Police at 412-672-9726.
