New Kensington police have charged a man from Pittsburgh’s Sheraden neighborhood with sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl.

Jeffrey Shaquille Shipman, 30, was charged Wednesday with felony counts of statutory sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse and corruption of minors.

He had not been arraigned on the charges as of Friday, and did not have a listed attorney, according to court records.

New Kensington police began investigating in late September after getting a report of a child sexually assaulted by an adult. The assault is alleged to have happened at a house in the 1100 block of Kenneth Avenue in New Kensington in early March.

The girl had run away from her Butler home, according to a criminal complaint. She told police she met Shipman, who she believed to be homeless, while walking through Pittsburgh before going to New Kensington.

The girl identified Shipman as the assailant, and said he knew her age, according to the complaint.

Shipman and the girl had been in contact through Facebook Messenger. Police received the results of a search warrant served on Meta, Facebook’s parent company, in October, which included sexually explicit messages, pictures and videos exchanged between the girl and Shipman in March.
