Drivers suffer popped tires on Parkway East

PennDOT officials said nearly 30 drivers ended up with flat tires after hitting a metal grate on the Parkway East near the Churchill exit.

A large number of vehicles were forced to pull over shortly before 6 p.m. Monday, according to TribLive news partner WTAE. Several drivers and tow truck operators were helping drivers change their tires.

“It was some type of metal grate in the roadway,” said PennDOT spokesman Steve Cowan. “We don’t know where it came from, but it wasn’t from (the Parkway). It took three employees to remove it from the Parkway.”

PennDOT officials said 26 drivers were affected.
