The Pittsburgh Pirates filled one of their two front-office openings by hiring Kevin Tenenbaum as vice president of research and development, a source confirmed to TribLive.
Tenenbaum, 32, comes to the Pirates after seven years with the Cleveland Guardians, where he spent four years as assistant director of baseball research and development before being promoted to director in 2022 and vice president in January. Previously, Tenenbaum worked for the Baltimore Orioles, where he started as an intern in 2014 before becoming an analyst for two-plus years. Tenenbaum is a graduate of Middlebury College, where he founded the Baseball Analytics Club, per his LinkedIn account.
Tenenbaum replaces Sean Ahmed in his position with the Pirates, where he will oversee the club’s analytics team. The Pirates previously hired Max Kwan to replace Junior Vizcaino as director of international scouting. They still have an opening for a director of pro scouting, after Will Lawton was offered another position within the organization.
