A hiker that was injured near Lock & Dam 6 on the Allegheny River in South Buffalo Township was rescued by firefighters Saturday afternoon.

Two hikers were walking a trail in the Clinton area of South Buffalo near the lock when one hiker took a fall and was injured, according to the South Buffalo Volunteer Fire Department Facebook page.

Both hikers’ cellphones were overheated and unusable, so one hiker flagged down a boat for help at around 1 p.m., and emergency response was notified, said the South Buffalo fire department.

The injured hiker was located quickly by firefighters, who guided Freeport Fire-EMS medics to the hiker. Medics then initiated treatment.

Firefighters pulled the injured hiker out of the area with a stokes basket.

Injuries were not life threatening, said South Buffalo firefighters.
