Crews battling house fire in North Huntingdon

Emergency responders were called to a house fire in North Huntingdon this morning.

Westmoreland County 911 confirmed a call around 7:30 a.m. for a blaze on Rebecca Street.

No injuries were reported, according to dispatchers.


Plum residents displaced by crash

Two people were displaced after a car crashed into a home in Plum Sunday morning.

The incident occurred along Kerr Road around 5 a.m., according to Officer Shawn Porter of Plum police.

Porter said the driver fell asleep at the wheel and veered into the building. He did not know whether anyone was injured.

The Red Cross Disaster Action Team is assisting the occupants affected by the crash.


Three arrested after Hill District carjacking

Pittsburgh police arrested 18-year-old Darius Balthrop and two minors Saturday in connection to a carjacking earlier that day.

The driver was unhurt in the incident, which took place at Crawford Street and Centre Avenue in the Hill District, police said.

Balthrop is charged with robbery, robbery of a motor vehicle, carrying a firearm without a license, terroristic threats and multiple counts of possession.

The juveniles were placed in the custody of juvenile probation, according to police.

Police said they recovered four guns, drugs and multiple cell phones while carrying out a search warrant of the stolen vehicle.


Restaurant robbed in Oakland

University of Pittsburgh police assisted Pittsburgh police in responding to an armed robbery at Layne’s Chicken Fingers in Oakland Saturday.

A man described as wearing a light red hoodie, black pants, black shoes, glasses, gloves and a tattered face mask entered the restaurant around 1 a.m. with a firearm and bullet proof vest, according to a crime alert from Pitt police.

He demanded cash from the manager, then fled the area, police said.
