A Youngwood woman pleaded guilty Wednesday in federal court to fraudulently renting cars out of a Monroeville rental car business in exchange for heroin.
Jackie Lynn Neubauer, 41, pleaded guilty to aggravated identity theft and access device fraud in connection with a case originating in December 2022.
According to police and court documents, Neubauer was previously the lone employee and manager at an Avis rental location in Monroeville. In court, Neubauer told U.S. District Judge Marilyn Horan that she used stolen credit card numbers to rent cars in exchange for heroin and cash.
In December 2022, Avis officials noticed the number of cars being rented increased dramatically from five per day to an average of 20, Monroeville police said. Avis officials also noticed revenue loss and missing vehicles at the Monroeville location.
A company investigation revealed that the same fraudulent names and credit cards had been used on multiple rental contracts.
U.S. Attorney Eric Olshan said Neubauer’s actions caused losses totaling more than $500,000.
Neubauer began fraudulently renting the vehicles in August 2022, continuing until charges were filed in late December of the same year.
She is scheduled for sentencing on July 31.
