Federal authorities are offering a reward for information about the theft of about 25 firearms from a New Kensington gun store early Monday.

A truck was used to smash through the door at RC Firearms on Freeport Street.

The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the National Shooting Sports Foundation are offering a $10,000 reward for anyone with information about the theft.

New Kensington police Chief Bob Deringer directed questions to the ATF, which he said is handling the investigation.

“It is an active investigation,” ATF spokesman Alan Gilmore said.

Gilmore was unclear on the total value of the stolen guns.

Those with information on the case should contact the ATF at 888-283-8477 or New Kensington police at 724-339-7533. Information also can be emailed to ATFTips@atf.gov or on the ATF’s website. Tipsters can remain anonymous using the “Reportit” app.

The ATF said 17,543 lost or stolen firearms were traced and recovered in Pennsylvania in 2022.

For that same year, the latest data available, the ATF says Pennsylvania led the nation with 2,806 guns lost or stolen from federally licensed firearms dealers.

Attempts to reach the store owners, Roy and Cole Berg, were unsuccessful Tuesday. A Facebook post from the store said repairs are underway and the shop would reopen as soon as possible.

The father-son duo are military veterans who live in Upper Burrell. They opened RC Firearms last February. Cole Berg is a full-time police officer in Frazer.
