A Monroeville man was taken to the hospital after he was struck by a car Sunday in Hempfield.

State police were called to Route 30 near West Hills Drive just after 6 p.m., after 30-year-old Agusto N. Tojil of Monroeville was struck by a car as he attempted to cross the highway.

Police said a car headed east on Route 30 swerved to try and avoid Tojil, but was unable to do so. Tojil was hit by the front driver’s side headlight and windshield. He was taken to Forbes Hospital with suspected serious injuries, according to police.

The car’s driver and a passenger were not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
