A New Florence man was charged Thursday with aggravated assault of an infant earlier this month.
Christopher M. McClellan Timko, 30, was charged by state police Wednesday with two counts of aggravated assault of a child and one count of endangering the welfare of a child, according to court documents. He was arraigned Thursday and denied bail.
State police were informed Wednesday of a 2-month-old had been admitted to UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh with serious injuries, according to a statement on the Westmoreland County District Attorney’s Office website.
The child was first taken to a pediatric doctor in Blairsville for a rash on their chest, which was diagnosed as an abrasion bruise, the statement said.
Timko was advised to take the child to Children’s Hospital. However, he did not seek further treatment until prompted by Children and Youth Services, who visited Timko’s home following the appointment, the statement said.
Timko was interviewed at the hospital and allegedly admitted to physically abusing the infant, the statement said. State police said the injuries reportedly occurred over the last two weeks while the child’s mother was at work.
Timko is being held in in the Westmoreland County Prison. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Dec. 8 before District Judge Denise Thiel.
