When Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin left open the possibility that injured All-Pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick could return in time for Sunday’s game, he used the qualifier that at best he wouldn’t practice until later in the week. That held true Wednesday, when Fitzpatrick did not participate in the Steelers’ first practice subject to a league-mandated status report.
Fitzpatrick missed the Steelers’ most recent game because of a hamstring injury suffered during their Oct. 29 game.
Defensive tackle Montravius Adams was forced to leave the ensuing contest — a win against the Tennessee Titans this past Thursday — because of an ankle injury. Adams also did not practice Wednesday.
A pair of veteran starters on defense — inside linebacker Elandon Roberts and defensive lineman Cameron Heyward — were limited at Wednesday’s practice. Heyward just came off injured reserve last week as the result of a groin injury suffered during Week 1.
Roberts is listed because of a knee injury.
The Steelers will practice twice more before hosting the Green Bay Packers at 1 p.m. Sunday.
