A Brookville woman caused a bit of a commotion Friday evening when she was found hiking along a railroad bridge spanning the Allegheny River in Harmar.
Township police Lt. Otto Gaal said officers received a call shortly after 5:30 p.m. from a motorist along the Turnpike about a person making their way through a fence along the the Bessemer & Lake Erie Railroad bridge.
It is a truss bridge that carries the railroad line across the Allegheny River and was constructed between 1917 and 1918, according to online records in the Library of Congress.
The fence is designed to keep people off the property and deter jumpers.
Gaal said it’s still an active railroad site and dangerous for pedestrians and motorists.
Officers encountered the woman, who was in hiking gear, as she was leaving near the intersection of Harbor View Drive and Freeport Road.
Gaal said she told police she was taking photos and video for social media.
The woman was given a warning. Those who travel along the bridge could be cited with trespassing.
