A Pittsburgh construction worker is lucky to be alive after the building he was helping to tear down partially collapsed.
Around 11:45 a.m. Wednesday, a construction crew was tearing down a building at 193 Chartiers Ave., when the structure partially collapsed.
The collapse trapped the worker, who authorities did not identify by name, inside an excavator, covering it with debris. The man, in his 60s, was said to be “heavily pinned,” and suffering trauma to his head, chest and arms, according to a Pittsburgh Public Safety news release.

Medics used advanced life support, trauma care to stabilize the man and extricate him. He was transported stable.

Two rescue teams worked to stabilize the man and free him from the excavator before he was taken to a local hospital. He was initially reported to be unconscious, but was alert as Pittsburgh EMS crews worked to extricate him. They used advanced life-support trauma care, in accordance to the Bureau’s rescue medicine care guidelines.
Pittsburgh police and firefighters also responded.
