You might think of Sheetz as a good place to fill up the tank and tummy. But it’s also a good place to work, according to Fortune magazine.

As it has for nine out of the past 10 years, Fortune has ranked Sheetz among its list of the 100 best companies to work for — at No. 58.

The magazine said Sheetz, the Altoona-based convenience store and gas station chain, has over 24,000 employees, as of March.

“I believe that this company does an outstanding job in its culture environment,” Fortune quotes one Sheetz employee as saying. “And the ability to work from home immensely helps in mental health, as well as family relationships.”

Fortune lauded the chain, founded in 1952, for encouraging “employees to bring their authentic selves to work and (supporting) the diversity of its employees across BIPOC, LGBTQIA+ and neurodiverse communities.”

It also recognized Sheetz for offering employees “bonuses four times a year and profit-sharing bonuses in financially successful years (like 2022).”

Other benefits the magazine cited were “relocation bonuses” and “access to pay prior to the biweekly payday.”

Fortune also liked Sheetz’s plan that enables employees “facing financial hardship due to illness, injury, domestic abuse, funeral expenses, home catastrophe or other personal struggles (to) apply to receive up to $2,500 per calendar year to assist.”

The company dropped from last year’s Fortune ranking of 33rd.
