A minor kitchen fire shut down Hidden Valley Resort in Somerset County on Monday morning, officials said.
Anna Weltz, spokeswoman for Vail Resorts, which owns Hidden Valley, said the fire started in the kitchen area of the Clocktower Restaurant and was quickly contained.
“Three employees were transported to the local hospital for medical evaluation,” she said. “Neighboring fire departments responded immediately.”
The fire started around 7:50 a.m., she said. The 1,200-acre property includes 29 ski slopes and trails, as well as an 18-hole golf course and a lodge.
The Hidden Valley Foundation operated its shuttles during the day to take homeowners from Hidden Valley to the Seven Springs resort.
The resort will remain closed Monday, according to Weltz, while the resort works with utility providers to restore service. It will reopen on Tuesday.
Individuals who purchased passes for the day can receive a refund or exchange by contacting the nearby Seven Springs Mountain Resort pass office.
Bakersville Volunteer Fire Department, New Centerville Rural Volunteer Fire Company, Rockwood Volunteer Fire Department, Somerset Volunteer Fire Department, Sipesville Volunteer Fire Company and Somerset Area Ambulance all responded to the incident, along with mutual aid from Fayette 45 and Westmoreland 110, according to Somerset County 911 dispatchers.
Hidden Valley is one of the three most well-known Western Pennsylvania ski resorts — Seven Springs, Hidden Valley and Laurel Mountain — in the Laurel Highlands.
Pittsburgh Pirates owner Bob Nutting sold the three resorts for $118 million to Vail Resorts in late 2021.
